Hyderabad: Since the new variant of Coronavirus has been identified in India, the governments have raised alarm against Omicron. It has become a concerning issue in Telangana as well. As many as 1,443 international passengers have arrived Hyderabad from "at-risk" countries till December 5, and 13 passengers, who were tested positive, have been taken to TIMS (Telangana Institute of Medical Sciences), Gachibowli.

Following a rise in number of Omicron cases in the country, GMR Hyderabad International Airport Ltd (GHIAL) has made all necessary arrangements as per the latest guidelines issued by Government of India. Based on fresh travel advisory, it has set up dedicated Covid-19 testing booths at the International Arrival Hall pre-immigration. "To provide a safe, secure, and seamless environment for passengers, thermal scanners have been installed at all arrival gates of the airport. All passengers must go through the thermal screening process upon arrival at the city airport. Appropriate signages are placed at strategic locations to guide passengers," the GHIAL said in a white paper.

The GHIAL has set up dedicated counters for passengers who have pre-booked their RT-PCR/Rapid PCR test. There will be dedicated queues for these passengers. They will save the time taken for registration and will proceed directly for testing. In order to assist and help with adequate manpower resources, GHIAL has extended support to the Airport Health Officer (APHO) and the State Health department.
